Benedict knew he was grinning like a bloody fool, but he could not stop himself. After Mr. Larson rebuked him for daring to touch Eliza, he stormed out of the room. Benedict knew it would ruin Eliza’s reputation if anyone found out that he fell asleep at her castle, but since no one knew she owned Beaumont Castle, and the household staff consisted of former agents, he felt confident no one would ever find out.

When he woke up to find Eliza touching him, he was ready to pledge his undying love to her. He would give anything to have her wake up in his arms every morning. He knew it should be impossible, but he was already in love with her.

Mr. Larson stepped into the drawing room. “Wipe that stupid grin off your face.” Benedict was confident that Mr. Larson was not a morning person. “Breakfast is ready in the dining room,” the older agent stated in a clipped tone, then stormed out.

He leaned closer to inform her how beautiful she looked, when Mr. Larson loudly cleared his throat. Eliza glanced up at her protector with an amused smile on her face, while she picked up her fork and started eating. Benedict decided he should just focus on the breakfast that was placed before him.

Roger walked into the room and handed Mr. Larson a note with a red seal. Dismissing him, Mr. Larson handed Eliza the note. “Lord Beckett sent over a message, Lady Eliza.”

She placed her fork down and wiped her mouth with a napkin from her lap. Taking the note, she broke the seal. Once she finished reading it, she demurely placed it on the table and picked up her fork.

Benedict was curious. “Well?”

Eliza looked at him innocently, as she slowly put her fork down. “Well what?”

He shook his head. The minx was teasing him. “What was in the note?”

Smiling, she said lightly, “Oh, the note.” She grabbed her cup and took a sip of tea, then she turned to him. “It appears that
