Benedict knew he was grinning like a bloody fool, but he could not stop himself. After Mr. Larson rebuked him for daring to touch Eliza, he stormed out of the room. Benedict knew it would ruin Elizaâs reputation if anyone found out that he fell asleep at her castle, but since no one knew she owned Beaumont Castle, and the household staff consisted of former agents, he felt confident no one would ever find out.
When he woke up to find Eliza touching him, he was ready to pledge his undying love to her. He would give anything to have her wake up in his arms every morning. He knew it should be impossible, but he was already in love with her.
Mr. Larson stepped into the drawing room. âWipe that stupid grin off your face.â Benedict was confident that Mr. Larson was not a morning person. âBreakfast is ready in the dining room,â the older agent stated in a clipped tone, then stormed out.
Benedict knew he eventually needed to go home to change, but he was not ready to leave. As he walked towards the dining room, Eliza descended the stairs. She adorably blushed and adverted her eyes when she saw him. He jogged up the stairs to offer her his arm and assist her into the dining room.
As they slowly made their way, Elizaâs dress kept brushing up against his leg, and he was utterly distracted. He just wanted to drag her into the other room and kiss her. As he was looking for an available room, he saw Mr. Larson shooting daggers at him. Benedict wondered if the man could read his thoughts, and since he could not rule out that possibility entirely, he decided to just escort Eliza to the dining room.
Benedict assisted Eliza to her seat, then he quickly grabbed his chair. He moved it closer to Eliza and sat down. She smiled at him, and he found himself unable to look away. He leaned closer to inform her how beautiful she looked, when Mr. Larson loudly cleared his throat. Eliza glanced up at her protector with an amused smile on her face, while she picked up her fork and started eating. Benedict decided he should just focus on the breakfast that was placed before him.
Roger walked into the room and handed Mr. Larson a note with a red seal. Dismissing him, Mr. Larson handed Eliza the note. âLord Beckett sent over a message, Lady Eliza.â
She placed her fork down and wiped her mouth with a napkin from her lap. Taking the note, she broke the seal. Once she finished reading it, she demurely placed it on the table and picked up her fork.
Benedict was curious. âWell?â
Eliza looked at him innocently, as she slowly put her fork down. âWell what?â
He shook his head. The minx was teasing him. âWhat was in the note?â
Smiling, she said lightly, âOh, the note.â She grabbed her cup and took a sip of tea, then she turned to him. âIt appears that
